On Call Communications Expands Distribution For Their QuickSPOTTM Satellite Bandwidth On Demand Network
|
|
Foothill
Ranch, California: December 1,
2009: On Call Communications announced
today that they have signed agreements and now have connectivity to "The
Switch" in Los Angeles, California and to All Mobile Video in
Carterette, New Jersey. This gives On Call's QuickSPOT clients the
ability to connect directly to all major networks and broadcasters. The new
video connectivity will also be used for occasional video services provided by
On Call's fleet of rental terminals and network of satellite uplink service providers.
On the West Coast, On Call installed a terrestrial
connection to The Switch in Los Angeles from its teleport location in Orange
County. The Switch Los Angeles serves as
On Call's gateway to media companies in the Los Angeles area, major broadcast networks,
other Los Angeles POP's, such as PacTV and to national and international video fiber
networks such as AT&T, Genesis, Intelsat, Nexion and Vyvx.
On
the East Coast On Call signed an agreement with All Mobile Video for use of
their teleport with direct connectivity to major New York POP's such as
Waterfront and Azzurro.
The
additional facilities greatly expand the reach of On Call's QuickSPOT satellite bandwidth on demand network. While the service has offered its customers
tremendous flexibility in terms of access to space and automated operations, it
has been limited in its ability to deliver video to diverse locations due to
the use of proprietary hardware. The fiber connectivity now allows delivery of
video content originating within the QuickSPOT network to virtually any
organization connected to a terrestrial fiber network in the US and many
international destinations in SDI format in both standard and high definition.
The
QuickSPOT satellite bandwidth on demand network operates on Intelsat's Horizons
I and Horizons II Ku-band satellites. The network provides domestic service to
affiliate stations around the country including affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC and
PBS.

NAB To Transmit Show Coverage Via On Call Communications IP Satellite and On Call To Debut New Satellite News Gathering System
|
|
ON CALL COMMUNICATIONS introduces Remote
Control QuickSPOTTM IP SNG System and is named the official Satellite
Broadcaster for the 2011 NAB.
Las
Vegas, NV/Irvine California (April 8, 2011) - On Call
Communications, a
leading provider of IP (Internet protocol) mobile satellite solutions, will
headline as the NAB show's official Satellite Broadcaster. This function
includes providing the satellite space segment and uplinks for transmissions
from the show including live feeds to the major media outlets. Bob Sitrick,
President and CEO of Bob Sitrick Productions, is the Executive Producer of the
NAB show coverage.
"This is
the first time we've used IP satellite as part of the official show coverage,"
according to Michelle Kelly, NAB's Senior Vice President of Convention
Marketing. "In the past, broadcast outlets had to set up their own uplinks. On
Call's IP satellite is cutting-edge technology that will expand the coverage of
the show to a much wider audience and we couldn't be happier."
"We are
thrilled to be asked to play such an important role in this year's NAB," responded
On Call's CEO Jim Gilbert. Our
QuickSPOTTM Dual IP/DVB Satellite News Gathering System is the perfect platform
for the show. ." It's kind of like a Swiss army knife for broadcasters. It not
only provides high quality standard or high definition video, but can also
webcast, transfer files, and provide IFB, voice, internet access and e-mail all
on one easy to use platform. It offers the convenience and functionality of IP
with a twist of DVB thrown in to allow the signal to be sent to lots of
broadcasters simultaneously.
On Call
will introduce its newest satellite news gathering system at the show, dubbed
The QuickSPOTTM Solution. We've
enhanced the Classic QuickSPOTTM IP SNG System by giving the studio direct control
over the encoders, audio and video switches and HD cameras, using an intuitive
web based graphical user interface," said Gilbert. "That not only makes its
operation even easier, it makes single person live reporting from the field
achievable, reducing crew and cost for networks and affiliates. "
On Call
Communications will exhibit at NAB 2011 April
11-14 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The
exhibit booth features an insert studio and a live uplink. Attendees are
welcome to visit the booth #OE910 to
watch the IP/DVB system in action as it transmits from the show. Visitors may

QuickSPOT Delivers the Big Apple: In Five Minutes or Less!
All Mobile Video And On Call Communications
Team Up To Provide Time Sensitive HD Video Uplinks In Manhattan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York, New York and Foothill
Ranch, CA: All Mobile Video (AMV) and On
Call Communications announced a joint venture today to base an HD, IP based
satellite news gathering van out of AMV's location on 26th Street in
NYC. The joint venture will serve news and media
organizations delivering High Definition and Standard Definition video directly
to network studios or via All
Mobile Video's downlink at Gateway where it can be picked up on fiber
networks. News networks will be able to quickly
broadcast live from the scene of breaking New York stories due to several
advantages: the centrally located
Mid-town base is convenient for all of lower Manhattan, the SNG van is more
compact than traditional satellite uplink trucks making it more maneuverable in
crowded streets and the speedy, automated deployment of the QuickSPOTTM
portable satellite system puts crews on air within five minutes of arrival.
News stations need only send a reporter to the scene; the
service package includes satellite uplink van, HD/SD video encoder,
cameraperson/operator, IFB with Producer's line and Internet access. HD/SD
cameras and light kit are optional. Because
the ku satellite system is automated, networks will enjoy lower daily rates for
service as the savings are passed on to the news customers.
The new SNG vehicle is built around On Call's QuickSPOTTM IP based
satellite system. The system
provides a high quality HD or SD Video feed from the vehicle as well as a full
suite of mobile office functionality including voice lines, FTP, and Internet
access.
On Call and All Mobile Video have already been working
together as On Call uses AMV's Gateway for QuickSPOT's East Coast point of presence out of the New
Jersey teleport and fibers feeds to the major POPs in New York City.
For more information on the service call Leonard Laxer at
AMV 646-230-6996/917-299-0205 or our 24 hour TOC at 732-969-3191.

On Call Communications Debuts $10 Per Minute Hd Satellite News Gathering At Nab 2008
|
| April 7, 2008 - Irvine, CA - On Call Communications, a leading provider
of automated, mobile satellite solutions, will debut its QuickSPOTTM
High Definition IP Satellite News Gathering system at the National
Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas, April 14 - 17. Featuring
Envivio's new 4Caster HD30TM MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) high definition video
encoder, the system will transmit high quality 720p and 1080i formatted
video content in data streams as low as 5.25 Mb/s. On Call's integrated
hardware and satellite service enables broadcasters to contribute HD
news at tremendous cost savings compared with conventional HD satellite
transmissions.
Flexible bandwidth options are the hallmark of QuickSPOT services.
HD customers will be able to choose from on demand, space segment
billed per minute or take advantage of pre-scheduled service to save
even more. HD access is as low as $10 per minute.
On Call selected Envivio for its excellent video quality with very low
latency. The ultra-efficient compression algorithms in the new Envivio
HD30 enable the system to send high quality HD feeds at rates similar
to current MPEG-2 based SD service. Extremely low latency of 300
milliseconds over DVB-ASI interfaces makes the HD30 a solid choice for
interactive news applications such as studio anchors interviewing
reporters in the field. This efficiency and performance make HD news
contribution practical in almost any sized market. It also provides
local broadcasters with an economically attractive model for
introducing HD coverage of local sports.
QuickSPOT HD operates on the same basic platform as SD allowing
broadcasters to operate both SD and HD on the same system. An Envivio
4Caster HD30 can be added to new or existing QuickSPOT systems offering
an easy migration path from SD systems for those who aren't ready to
make an immediate jump to HD. HD systems provide the automated
deployment features and easy mobile operation QuickSPOT is known for.
"At $150 for a 15 minute HD feed, QuickSPOT makes HD broadcasting
affordable for even the smallest stations. The low rates combined with
the easy mobile operation of our automated system are a winning
combination for broadcasters," said James Gilbert, CEO of On Call
Communications.
On Call will offer live demonstrations of both QuickSPOT HD and SD
video over satellite at the NAB Show in the Intelsat Outdoor Media
booth OE346 under the QuickSPOT balloon. The Envivio 4Caster HD30 will
also be on display at the Envivio booth SU13205.

7NEWS WHDH-TV Augments Live Special Event Coverage using On Call Communications' QuickSPOTTM Automated SNG System
|
| Irvine, CA - (March 6, 2008) 7NEWS (WHDH-TV) is a fast-paced news
organization in Boston that often travels around the country covering
big news stories. At the Super Bowl, in Arizona, WHDH used an exciting
new piece of technology that allowed them to be live not only from the
stadium where they had positioned their satellite truck but also from
celebrity parties and team practice facilities that were miles away.
7NEWS turned to On Call Communications
(OCC) of Orange County, California for their Fly and Drive Portable SNG
System called QuickSPOT. The Quick SPOT is a .96m antenna that can
attach to any vehicle with roof racks. The portable system has a GPS on
board so finding the satellite only takes a push of a button. There is
no need to call for satellite time or contact an access center to
transmit.
Satellite time is offered by Intelsat's
OnDemand Platform. Broadcasters only pay for the satellite time they
actually use. Instead of buying a 5-minute block and using 1 minute to
feed video they pay for 1 minute. Turn the knob and you are
transmitting. It's as easy as turning on a 2 Ghz microwave transmitter.
And they didn't have to pay to ship the
system; it was compact enough to fit into their satellite truck heading
to Arizona. Upon arrival, it took less than 45 minutes to build and
test the system which was mounted onto a rented mini-van.
QuickSPOT enabled 7NEWS to have their news and sports
anchors live from the stadium while reporters went live at different
venues in and around Phoenix.
After using QuickSPOT for a few days,
veteran 7NEWS reporter Dan Hausle e-mailed the News Director and
Operations Manager saying "Just wanted to let you know that the
QuickSPOT system under the operation of Mike Howley is wonderful! It's
opened logistical options so smoothly and simply it's hard to
appreciate how revolutionary it is. Mike's set up in the mini-van is
quick and comfortable to use. I love it. In a word, WOW!"
The QuickSPOT system was such a success
that they included it in their "Super Tuesday" coverage as well. The
system was packed up and shipped from Arizona to Chicago so 7NEWS could
report live from Sen. Barack Obama's campaign headquarters.

SKY.it Selects On Call Communications QuickSPOTTM Automated SNG System to Provide Live News Coverage on their Speciale America 2008 Roadtrip
|
Irvine, California - (February 26, 2008) - From day one of the
Primary Elections SKYTG24, the Italian all news channel, covered the US
political landscape on a road trip from New Hampshire to Florida.
Sending daily live news shots and interviews from locations around the
US for broadcast in Italy, they gave Italian viewers an inside look at
American politics.
SKY.it selected On Call Communications
96cm QuickSPOTTM Fly and Drive Automated SNG system to carry their
content from the field locations to the studio. The MPEG-4 video feeds
broadcast from the mobile unit were turned around at Intelsat's
teleport in Atlanta, GA and sent to Italy over Intelsat's GXS network.
SKY.it chose the QuickSPOTTM Fly and Drive system for the ease of use
provided by the automated system. A single button deploys the system to
find the satellite and login to the OnDemand satellite Network; in
about five minutes the system is ready for transmission of live MPEG 4
video. Mounted on top of a rental SUV, the system was installed in
about half an hour and after a brief training session, the crew was on
their way covering the primaries live.
Flavio Maspes, Foreign Desk Supervisor
for SkyTG24 describes the project; "We followed all the primaries until
Super Tuesday. In 40 days we covered more than 9000 KM, producing and
transmitting live and transferring at least one story package a day
using store and forward. QuickSPOTTM offered us a good and reliable
service with On Call reacting very quickly when we had the only problem
during this production."
SkyTG24 also used the QuickSPOTTM
OnDemand satellite service. The service is ideally suited for the brief
news pieces produced on the road since it requires no advance
scheduling and usage is billed by the minute.

joined forces, and in coordination with AT&T, have donated
desperately needed emergency communications for command operations and
victim relief centers in fire-affected southern California communities.
Within hours after Governor Schwarzenegger issued a disaster
declaration the three companies swung into action, donating satellite
terminals, satellite bandwidth, engineering personnel and logistical
support. AT&T took the lead in contacting State and local
governments to apprise them of the first response capabilities that
were available to them.
"The quick response of On Call
Communications and the ability to provide continuous 24-hour support
was crucial in maintaining optimal communications for our recent
Santiago Fire." reported Scott Johnson, IT Analyst for Orange County
Fire Authority who relied on the QuickSPOT terminals and Intelsat
On-Demand bandwidth for fire mapping and logistical coordination.
On Call Communications and Intelsat
prepared and installed all of the automated satellite based systems and
optimized each of the terminals for the specific applications used by
the authorities. On Call and Intelsat also donated all of the satellite
bandwidth used for the operations.
The QuickSPOT automated, satellite
terminals deployed were able to establish communications within minutes
of arrival. John Pingel, Group IT Manager for the County of San Diego
said, "The onboard voice and data links were up within minutes after
the wheels stopped rolling on the mobile QuickSPOT satellite units.
From there, our technicians were quickly able to patch in connections
to the local area network and phone systems to distribute
communications throughout the facilities." The systems provided voice
(VoIP), Internet access, WI-FI, file transfers and video services in
the San Diego suburbs of Fall Brook, El Cajon and Jamul where they
supported Local Assistance Centers. A high school and a juvenile
detention facility in the San Diego were also serviced.
"We were proud to assist our state and
local governments; it's the least we could do for those who give so
unselfishly of themselves to keep our families and property safe. We
have been doing this for a good many years all over the globe, but it
takes on a whole new meaning when it's in your own back yard" said Jim
Gilbert, CEO of On Call Communications.
Intelsat CEO David McGlade commented,
"The unfortunate events in California served as yet another example of
the ability of satellite communications to rapidly establish critical
communications links when ground infrastructure has been destroyed by
natural or man-made disasters, or is inaccessible. We are proud to
support the emergency teams in California during this time of urgent
need, and stand ready to demonstrate for emergency response teams
across the nation the value of including satellite-based communications
in emergency preparedness plans."

UDcast, On Call and Intelsat Provide High Performance Disaster Recovery Satellite Communications System for U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency
|
OnSPOT Emergency Response System ensures high security and
high performance in difficult ad-hoc networking conditions so response
teams can concentrate on the immediate needs of their communities
Sophia-antipolis, France, ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. and BETHESDA, MD -
(December 6, 2006) - To ensure performance and security of mission
critical communications services in extreme situations, leading
satellite system suppliers UDcast, On Call Communications and Intelsat
announced today that they are providing the United States Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
with high performance disaster recovery communications systems.
The OnSPOTTM Emergency Response System
gives public safety agencies valuable communications services that set
up easily in a matter of minutes so response teams can concentrate on
the immediate needs of their communities. OnSPOT comprises
automatically deployable (auto-acquisition, auto-deploy) satellite
antennas mounted on light vehicles, that also host the complete set of
electronic equipment.
To meet FEMA's needs for satellite
communications and video capability, On Call has provided FEMA with 70
OnSPOT units including telephone, fax and data capabilities for their
Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers and Mobile Emergency Response Units.
FEMA has contracted On Call to provide 25 additional units for the
Regional offices and FIRST response teams including video transmission
capabilities while on the move.
OnSPOT antennas deploy and lock on the
satellite at the touch of a button. Automated login into the QuickSpot
satellite bandwidth on-demand service platform provides instant
broadband IP connectivity ready to launch any IP application. OnSPOT
broadband systems are capable of data rates up to 4.5 Mb/s to meet all
tactical communications needs, such as voice lines (from 2 to 72 lines
per mobile system), secure accelerated Internet access, wi-fi
networking, video broadcasting and Webcasting. OnSPOT terminals are
designed exclusively for use on the QuickSpot service network, a
partnership between Intelsat and On Call Communications.
"In the most critical moments of a
natural disaster or national emergency, FEMA has to know that it can
depend on the smooth operation of emergency response communications
networks," said James Gilbert, CEO, On Call Communications. "OnSPOT
systems provide reliable communications services that let emergency
personnel concentrate on taking care of the people while we take care
of the communications. Using UDcast's UDgateway® we are able to meet
FEMA's needs with a powerful and flexible tool that manages and
controls the network, providing a high level of security without
sacrificing quality or performance."
"In most cases during natural and
manmade disasters, satellite communications is the only solution that
enables the operations of a quick response communications
infrastructure. Intelsat's support of the QuickSpot service is another
example of how deploying our powerful satellite resources and teleport
facilities meets the unique demands of the first responder and disaster
recovery markets," said Alex Flores, Intelsat's senior product manager.
The efficient management of standard
communication protocols over satellite links, providing the level of
performance and security required by FEMA, is ensured by UDcast's
UDgateway. UDgateway performs data and voice over encrypted IP,
providing FEMA with an end-to-end virtual private network environment.
A variety of protocol acceleration functions performed by the UDgateway
provides high performance communication over two-way satellite
connections.
"By choosing the UDgateway, On Call can
offer the best in class satellite performance and security to its
customers," said Antoine Clerget, vice president of engineering and
co-founder of UDcast. "Our UDgateways integrate easily in all
networking environments, including mobile applications. The proposed
solution helps to manage recovery missions, saving lives of persons in
danger and accelerating the reconstruction process in the damaged
areas."
OnSPOT's QuickSpot dedicated satellite bandwidth service provides:
• Customer applications receive guaranteed data rates (non-shared)
• No quality degradation due to network congestion
• Economic savings by paying only for bandwidth used by the minute, day or month
• Nationwide satellite service network
• Compatibility with IP applications - video, data, voice, Internet

PANAMSAT AND ON CALL COMMUNICATIONS DEVELOP A NEW REAL-TIME SOLUTION FOR BROADCAST NEWS DELIVERY ACROSS NORTH AMERICA
|
Local News Stations Join the Front Line in News Serving Their Communities with Live, Instantaneous Remote Broadcasts
ORANGE COUNTY, CA and WILTON, CT, April 18, 2006: PanAmSat (NYSE:PA)
and On Call Communications today announced the development of a new
satellite-based communications solution to enable the coverage of
breaking news and live events by local and independent news stations.
By using PanAmSat's QuickSPOT on-demand satellite technology and On
Call's OnSPOT auto-deploying broadband satellite communications
systems, broadcasters can now report on breaking news events as they
happen and then transmit the coverage to viewers in real time with
unrivaled simplicity, mobility and cost-efficiency.
KOCE, a PBS-affiliate based in
Huntington Beach, CA., is using the new system to provide live news
coverage to viewers of events that previously could only be
pre-recorded. "The QuickSPOT/OnSPOT solution gives us the opportunity
to deliver live remote broadcasts at far lower costs and convenience
than anything we had been able to do in the past," said Michael Taylor,
news director, KOCE's evening newscast, Real Orange. "Being live on the
scene gives us a new dimension, covering the news as it happens, making
the story much more ‘real' to our viewers. The recent fires in Southern
California exemplified this as we reported from the field, delivering
the latest updates from fire officials, what areas were being evacuated
and what schools remained open. Our news was much more relevant to our
viewers compared to something written and broadcast from the studio."
The QuickSPOT/OnSPOT solution provides a
powerful, cost-effective broadcast delivery system making it possible
for smaller broadcasters, such as KOCE, to access the formerly
cost-prohibitive world of live broadcasts. These stations can now avoid
the expense of dedicated satellite space by paying only for their
on-air time. And, no technical knowledge is required to operate the
auto-deploying terminals.
"Through our work with OnCall, we've
developed a truly game-changing broadcasting solution that transforms
the world of satellite news gathering," said Mike Antonovich, executive
vice president, Global Sales and Marketing for PanAmSat. "By using
smaller auto-pointing antennas in conjunction with the latest
generation of digital encoding and compression and our
bandwidth-on-demand provisioning service, live news coverage is now
simpler, smarter and smaller then ever before. These lower-cost systems
can now affordably be made available to support everyone from major
market television stations to local community cable channels. Smaller
communities benefit by getting up-to-the-minute reports on local
weather, storm conditions and developing news events. And, independent
stations can provide a wider variety of coverage and perspectives as
they serve up their own live reports. It is a win-win for everyone-the
broadcaster and the viewer."
